Plenty of gardens have a corner that never quite gets used. In this Manchester garden, that corner now has a 4 × 3m louvred roof pergola, and Karl from our team showed us around the finished space.
A destination at the end of the garden
The pergola sits at the far end of the lawn on a grey decked base, with a paved path leading straight to it from the patio. That path matters more than it looks: when a seating area is easy to reach, it becomes somewhere you wander out to with a morning coffee, rather than somewhere you only use on the odd sunny weekend.
Overhead is a louvred roof, and in the video Karl shows the side screens that pull down to close in the sides. With the fence behind and the screens down, the space feels sheltered and a bit more private. LED strip lighting runs around the frame, so it still works once the light starts to fade.
Who a 4 × 3m pergola suits
At 4 × 3m, this is a comfortable size for a small dining set or a couple of lounge chairs without taking over the whole lawn. It is a good fit if you want:
- somewhere for morning coffees that isn't the kitchen table
- a spot for evening catch-ups with friends or family
