Veranda questions

Quick answers on our veranda models, roof options, planning permission, guarantees and installation across England, Wales and Scotland.

What is the difference between a veranda and a pergola?

A veranda has a fixed, sloping roof, normally fixed to the house wall or standing on its own, that keeps rain off all year. A pergola, such as our Siena Plus, usually has a louvred roof you can open or close. Choose a veranda if you want permanent cover attached to the house. Choose a louvred pergola if you want to control sun and ventilation.

Which veranda models do you offer?

Our veranda range runs from the compact Asti and the classic Cortona to the modern Urbino, the robust Varese and the reinforced Varese Plus for wider spans. Volterra has a flat glass roof with integrated LED lighting, Assisi is freestanding, Sirmione has a louvred roof, and Lerici has a folding fabric roof. Our online veranda designer shows the sizes and options for each model.

What roof and side options are available on your verandas?

Our verandas come wall-mounted or freestanding. Depending on the model, roofs include clear or opal polycarbonate, clear, tinted or opal glass, louvred roofs, a sliding glass roof or a folding fabric roof. Sides can stay open or take sliding glass doors, fixed glass, aluminium walls or motorised screen blinds. Our online veranda designer shows the options for each model, and we confirm the specification in your proposal.

Do I need planning permission for a veranda in England?

It depends, so check before you order. In England, householder permitted development rights for extensions and outbuildings exclude verandas, balconies and raised platforms. Many attached verandas therefore need closer checking than a freestanding pergola. Size, position, listed status and designated land all matter. Read the Planning Portal guidance and ask your local planning authority, or apply for a lawful development certificate for certainty.

Do I need planning permission for a veranda in Wales?

Possibly. Welsh permitted development guidance says extensions cannot include verandas, and verandas or raised platforms are not permitted where any part projects more than 300mm above the ground. Listed buildings, conservation areas and flats have extra restrictions. Read the GOV.WALES guidance on extensions and outbuildings and confirm with your local planning authority before you order.

Do I need planning permission for a veranda in Scotland?

Check with your council. Scotland's householder permitted development rules depend on whether the structure is attached to the house, its size and position, and your property type. You may also need a building warrant even where planning permission is not required. mygov.scot advises always confirming with your council, and we recommend doing that before you order.

Who installs your verandas?

Our own installation teams supply and install every veranda, working from our base in Wolverhampton and covering England, Wales and Scotland. Before fitting, we check the wall, access, base and fixing requirements. We keep you updated through a dedicated project WhatsApp group from booking to handover.

What guarantee comes with a veranda?

Our verandas come with a 5-year guarantee, and veranda add-ons such as sliding glass sides, screen blinds and LED lighting carry a 2-year guarantee. Every veranda is supplied and installed by our own installation teams, so one company stays responsible from the site checks through handover. We confirm the guarantees for your order in writing at handover.

How do I design a veranda and get a proposal?

Use our online veranda designer to choose wall-mounted or freestanding, your size, roof, colour, sides and extras, then request a proposal. We can create a visual of the veranda in your garden. Our team then reviews access and base details and books a survey where needed before confirming your written proposal.
