Hot tub, sauna and a 12 × 3m louvred roof pergola in Nottingham

Some gardens get a seating area. This one in Nottingham got a whole outdoor room: a 12 × 3m louvred roof pergola with 10 blinds and a full LED lighting system, sheltering a hot tub at one end and a sauna cabin at the other. We sent Dean round for a walkthrough and, as the video shows, we eventually found him sitting in the sauna.

36 square metres under one roof

Twelve metres by three gives roughly 36m² of covered space, which changes what a pergola can be. Instead of a single table and chairs, there is room to zone it. Here the structure runs along the back of the garden on light paving, a step up from the lawn, with:

• a hot tub set under the louvred roof, so it stays usable when the weather turns
• a sauna cabin tucked into the far bay
• plenty of open floor in between, which could take a dining table, an outdoor sofa or a bar

The dark grey frame and slatted fence behind keep everything looking calm and consistent, so the hot tub and sauna don't feel like separate add-ons dotted around the garden.

After dark is when it really shows

The footage was filmed as the light faded, and that is when the LED system earns its place. Colour-changing strips run along the frame and through the roof, glowing across the louvres, with warm lights along the back fence. The 10 blinds let the sides be closed in for shelter or privacy, then rolled back up when you want the garden view.

A run this long takes some planning: where the posts land, how far the structure sits from the house, and what goes in each bay. A few questions worth asking early:
